Do I need a Wired Energy Manager?
A Wired Energy Manager is included with every charger. It is a CT clamp. We include one for a 7kW model and three for a 22kW model.

Are your chargers compatible with all types of EVs?
Absolutely. Simpson & Partners chargers are engineered to support all EV models and PHEV. Tethered (Built-in Cable): Comes with a fixed Type 2 cable. Untethered (Socket): Features a universal socket, allowing you to use your own Type 1 or Type 2 charging cable, supporting older Type 1 vehicles as well as newer Type 2 cars.

What information do I need to provide in the survey?
Installers typically ask for photos of where you want to put your charger (it could be in two places if you can't decide), a clear close up photo of your consumer unit with the lid open so they can see the switches and numbers on it), a photo of your fuse box (so they can see what power supply you have) and a rough distance in metres between the consumer unit and where you want to put your charger. Lastly they will want to know the model of charger - is it a wall mount 7kW or 22kW or a freestanding pedestal etc... A good electrician will help you decide whether you need wireless energy manager and provide advice on where best to install your charger.

How does S&P pricing compare to other chargers with similar features?
Our wall‑mounted untethered chargers start from £649 inc. VAT. We keep pricing transparent and straightforward. Our premium build quality and smart features come as standard, and you only pay for optional upgrades like signature colours, metal lids or wireless energy management. Cheaper alternatives often cut corners or add hidden costs later. Every S&P charger includes a 10‑year external enclosure warranty and a 5‑year electrical warranty. Because we manufacture and finish our chargers in‑house and sell directly, you get exceptional quality at a genuinely competitive price.
Plus iconPlus icon
Will I need to make any electrical upgrades to my property?
It depends on your existing setup. A qualified installer will assess your consumer unit and electrical capacity during the survey. If upgrades are needed (such as a new consumer unit to meet safety regulations) costs are typically around £85 and can be included in your installation quote. Emma from Beaumont House recommends: "Check your electrics first. We have 3-phase, meaning we could install as many chargers as we wanted within our budget. We opted for two 22kW chargers initially but made the underground pipework suitable for further cables as I hope to install more in the future."

Willhaving an EV charger help me get more bookings?
Tethered mode is a feature you can activate from your mobile app that locks the charging cable into your Simpson & Partners charger. This is handy for preventing cable theft when you're not using the charger, or simply for added convenience – keeping your cable securely stored and ready to use.

What is a Wireless Energy Manager?
This clever small device load balances the electrical load between your car and home. It works as an alternative to the Wired energy manager and works wirelessly, giving you a no-mess finish and it’s quick to install (so no messy wires or bashing through walls). Load balancing enables you to avoid nuisance trips and ensures your car gets the maximum amount of charge available. The Wireless EM uses LoRa (Radio) technology to communicate with the charger. The Wireless EM has 2 modes – 1. In Standard Mode the Wireless EM has a range of up to approximately 65m. 2. The range in Long Range Mode is up to approximately 120m. Long Range mode is only supported when using an external USB-C power supply. If you're an electrician, you can watch Adam from Sota electrical installing one here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jMWyaKCNOno

I’m looking to get a quote for installing multiple EV chargers for my commercial property.
Absolutely. We provide tailored quotes for multiple charger installations at commercial sites. Here's how it works: Use our online configurator or contact our team to specify the number of chargers you need, power rating (7 kW or 22 kW), installation type (wall-mounted or freestanding), and any business features like RFID access, MID metering, or built-in RCBOs. We'll build a quote for you. If you don't have your own electricians, we can connect you with an independent electrical team who will complete a site survey. They'll need photos of your consumer unit, fuse board, and cable routes, plus details about your requirements (payment systems, solar PV, battery integration, etc.). You'll then receive a detailed quotation covering hardware, installation, any civil works or cable trenching, and commissioning. Government grants are available for charging infrastructure, so remember to ask your installer to claim these on your behalf. Branded colour finishes are available on request for business clients.

How can I ensure the charger blends in with my property's aesthetics?
Simpson & Partners chargers come in 132 colour combinations, allowing you to match your property's style perfectly. Unlike bland plastic chargers, ours enhance your property's visual appeal and create a positive first impression for guests — important for instant "judgement" scores when they arrive. Nuthatch Retreat chose Holiday Series specifically for design: "We'd witnessed the frankly ugly and cumbersome chargers on the market and wanted something refined, thoughtful and beautiful that would tie in with the aesthetic of the building."
Plus iconPlus icon
Will it actually increase my bookings?
Yes. EV drivers actively filter their search for properties with on-site charging. Without it, you're invisible to this fast-growing market. As EV ownership increases, properties without charging are losing bookings year-round to those that offer it. An on-site charger also generates better reviews and repeat bookings because it enhances the guest experience, gives EV drivers a home from home necessity. Even for those that don't have an ev, well, it shows you've thought of everything.
Plus iconPlus icon
Are S&P chargers more compatible with renewable energy than other brands?
Yes. Our chargers are fully solar-compatible, letting you maximise your home energy and reduce costs. Many other chargers claim “green energy support,” but only S&P chargers integrate seamlessly with solar generation and smart tariffs, making your EV charging both efficient and environmentally friendly.
Plus iconPlus icon
How quickly will it pay for itself?
Typically within 12 months through guest charging revenue, often sooner with just a few extra bookings. After that, it's pure profit a permanent feature that keeps generating income stay after stay, year after year. You're not just covering costs; you're creating a revenue stream while future-proofing your property.

Where is my charging data stored? Is it safe?
Yes. Your charge history is kept on high-security AWS servers, all located within the UK. We’ve applied the same rigorous standards used in internet banking to ensure your data is protected. If you're comparing us to other EV charger brands, it's worth asking them where your data goes.

What is the Locking Function?
The locking function (from your mobile) secures your charging cable in the charger socket, protecting against cable theft. How it works: The cable automatically locks into the charger when you're charging your car For untethered chargers, it also locks your cable in place when you're not charging, preventing theft if you leave it plugged in

Will a 3-phase charger work on a single-phase supply?
Yes, the installer will just need to connect to one phase within the charger.
Plus iconPlus icon
What does Single-Phase mean?
Single-phase is the phrase given to describe the electrical power supply that comes from the national grid into your property. Single-phase power supply is the most common type of electricity supply in UK homes, about 85% of domestic properties use it. It means electricity flows through one live wire, protected by a single fuse (usually rated at 60, 80, or 100 amps). With a single-phase power supply, the maximum charging rate for an EV charger is typically 7.3kW, which is perfect for most home charging needs.
Plus iconPlus icon
What is the difference between single-phase and three-phase power?
Single-phase power is the standard electricity supply for most UK homes — around 85% of domestic properties use it. It delivers electricity through one live wire and is protected by a single fuse (typically rated at 60, 80, or 100 amps). With single-phase, the maximum charging rate for an EV charger is usually 7.3kW, which is ideal for overnight charging and suits most households. Three-phase power, on the other hand, is more common in commercial buildings or larger homes. It uses three live wires, allowing electricity to flow more efficiently and at higher capacity. If your property has a three-phase supply, you can install a charger capable of delivering up to 22kW —useful for larger battery EVs or homes with multiple electric vehicles needing faster turnaround. In short: • Single-phase = up to 7.3kW charging, standard for most homes • Three-phase = up to 22kW charging, suited for high-demand setups, commercial car parks, multi-dwelling residences.

What type of EV charger is best for my holiday let?
Look for a reliable, durable charger with minimal downtime that complements your property's aesthetic. It should include MID meters for accurate billing and OFGEM compliance with UK government requirements. Simpson & Partners Holiday Series offers both wall-mounted and freestanding models, built from metal (not plastic) with 132 colour combinations to enhance your property. Simon from Coillemore House chose carefully: "I chose the Home 7 Plus so I could get the right colour combination. Neptune blue with a mid oak lid to fit in with the stone walls of our Georgian property. We love how it looks, it's super durable so it can stand up to all the weather Scotland can throw at it, and it's discreet so it doesn't look out of place."

What’s the difference between Tethered and Untethered chargers?
Tethered: The charger comes with a cable permanently attached, so it's quick and easy to plug in and go. This is ideal if you always use the same vehicle and want maximum convenience. Untethered: The charger has no fixed cable — you use your own instead. This gives you a neater look with no cable on show when not in use. You can also leave your cable plugged into the charger between charges if you prefer, giving you the best of both worlds.
Plus iconPlus icon
What’s the difference between the Home 7 and Home 22?
The Home 7 and Home 7 Plus are both single-phase AC chargers and will deliver up to 7.3kW (32 amps) to your car. The Home 22 is a three-phase charger and can deliver up to 22kW—three times the power. Just keep in mind, you’ll need a three-phase power supply to get the full 22kW.

How does the build quality of Simpson & Partners chargers compare to other brands?
We have an industry leading 10 year warranty on the enclosures. Our charger fronts are made of die-cast metal. We designed and chose metal for it's superior strength and durability. The vast majority of EV chargers on the market are made of plastic enclosures. This limits the shape, finish and colours. We then powder coat by hand to a very high finish. Compared to plastic ev chargers, our chargers are heavier and customers and installers often comment on how they can feel and see the build quality. Our charger lids are available in precision-CNC milled metal or sustainable Accoya real wood. With IP65-rated enclosures, premium materials, and rigorous testing, they’re built to withstand the UK’s toughest weather. Many other brands don’t match this level of durability, which means our chargers stay looking and performing like new for longer. ‍
