The team at Octopus Energy’s Kraken invited me to the launch of Project Mercury Consortium.

What’s Project Mercury? It’s Octopus Energy’s plan to unite energy, software, and hardware companies to ensure 200 million clean tech devices by 2030 work seamlessly together. Devices labeled as ‘Mercury Enabled’ meet new standards for compatibility, balancing energy supply and demand. This new standard ensures devices like heat pumps, batteries, solar panels, and EV chargers work with others, much like Bluetooth set the bar for tech compatibility.

This simplifies clean tech adoption, making integration of tools like heat pumps and EV chargers easier for customers. Mercury speeds up renewable tech use by creating a system where everything works smoothly together.

At the event, it was inspiring to see experts from energy, software, and hardware sectors collaborating. This teamwork is crucial for industry-wide adoption.

At Simpson & Partners, we’ve always supported open standards and interoperability. That’s why we’ve built native OCCP into our chargers, giving customers the freedom to mix and match top-quality products. The Mercury initiative aligns with this vision!

We’re also partnering with Kraken to make the “Intelligent Octopus Go” feature fully compatible with our chargers and all vehicles. Currently, it only works with certain models, which limits options for customers who value our sleek designs and solid performance.

In the new year, we’ll update all units—old and new—to support Octopus Intelligent. Once testing is complete, we’ll invite customers to join the beta before the full launch.

Stay tuned for updates! We’re excited to work with Kraken and bring more seamless energy solutions to you.
